Brownwood emergency responders were called to Commerce Square shopping center in Brownwood after a car struck the Rue 21 storefront on Tuesday afternoon.

According to law enforcement on scene, the 93-year-old driver stated that she “blacked-out” and woke up on the sidewalk.  The vehicle, police stated, was obviously moving very slowly when it jumped the curb, traveling up onto the sidewalk between two columns and even missing a car parked nearby.  The vehicle had just rolled into the glass doors, and the pressure of the vehicle broke the glass, not the impact, according to police on scene.  The Chevrolet Impala had only minimal scratches on the bumper.

The driver was shaken up but reported to be uninjured and in fact, drove home after police had finished their investigation of the accident.  No others were injured as all store employees and customers were reported to have been at the back of the store at the time of the accident.

Brownwood Police Department, Brownwood Fire Department and Allegiance Ambulance responded to the scene of the accident.

Pictured above and below are photos of the accident scene.
