The Brownwood Education Foundation (BEF) awarded $10,500 in student scholarships to graduating seniors from Brownwood High School this May—tripling the amount awarded in 2024 and marking a significant milestone in the Foundation’s mission to support local students.
“This year, BEF was able to award $10,500 in scholarships — that’s three times as much as last year, and only expected to grow next year,” said BEF Executive Coordinator Danielle Rosborough. “BEF Student Scholarships have grown every year. Some come directly from businesses in the area, and some come from families and donors who gave directly toward student scholarships at last year’s BEF Country Gala. Giving annual scholarships through BEF is one of the best ways to directly impact the future of BISD students.”
The scholarships, awarded to deserving Brownwood High School seniors, are designed to ease the financial burden of higher education and empower students to pursue their academic and career goals. Each scholarship is sent directly to the recipient’s chosen college or university, ensuring funds are used for their intended purpose.
“Student Scholarships are just one of the ways BEF is passionate about giving back directly to BISD,” Rosborough added. “Senior students apply for scholarships; then, when awarded, the scholarships are sent directly to the school. Being a vessel for impacting BISD students in such a large way, especially in a harder, more expensive current education environment, is humbling. It is a privilege to know donors have confidence in the BEF scholarship process that changes lives.”
The Brownwood Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities within the Brownwood Independent School District (BISD), continues to expand its reach and impact. In addition to student scholarships, BEF supports a wide range of educational initiatives, including classroom grants, teacher recognition, teacher continued education, and retirement stipends. “The Foundation may also collect, administer, and distribute gifts for Brownwood Independent School District’s education programs and projects as designated by the donor or grantor,” Rosborough said.
The Foundation’s success is made possible through the generosity of local businesses, community members, and donors who believe in the power of education. Events like the annual BEF Country Gala (to be held September 27, 2025) play a crucial role in raising funds and awareness for the Foundation’s mission.
As the Brownwood Lions prepare to take their next steps beyond high school, the support from BEF ensures they do so with confidence and community behind them. With continued growth and community involvement, BEF is poised to make an even greater impact in the years to come.
