Brown County Commissioners briefly discussed the need of issuing a burn ban at Monday morning’s Commissioners Court meeting.  Consensus of the court was that all areas of the county seemed fine for now.   The commissioners decided to table issuance of the burn ban and revisit the issue next week.

In other business, representatives of the Brown County Historical Commission were recognized & recieved the Texas Historical Commission’s Distinctive Service Award.  Larry Nix of the Brown County Historical Commission then reviewed the recent preservation project of the Old Brown County Jail, even showing the court and audience a old roof rafter that had been repaired as evidence of the condition the old jail.

Other action items on the agenda were:

*District Attorney Micheal Murray requested that the court approve a replacement employee to fill the vacancy of the Assistant District t Attorney position in Ryan Locker’s absence, which was approved.

*Captain Tony Aaron of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office came before the court to request the purchases of a stun-cuff (at a cost of $875) and an in car video camera (which costs $5004), both of which were approved.  Neither item is a budget item.    The stun-cuff is typically used during jury trials when prisoners are in plain clothes and cannot be in shackles and chains.  The stun-cuff also will operate at a greater distance than the shock belt that is also used in these situations.

*Captain Aaron also addressed an employee change within the Sheriff’s Office which the Commissioners approved.  The new employee salary will remain the same as the previous employee.

*Approval of Tax Resale Deed to John Elder.  Commissioners briefly discussed and then approved this bid, which was $1100.  The outstanding taxes due were $718 and total expenses after publication and legal costs totaled $1480.
