Texas State Technical College’s Phi Theta Kappa honor society recognized local law enforcement officers by serving a free hamburger lunch Friday.

According to their sponsor Carmina Del Toro, the organization wanted to publicly recognize the officers in a time when officers are often vilified by the public. The appreciation lunch was offered to the Brownwood Police Department, Early Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, at the Brown County Law Enforcement Center, to make the lunch more convenient for officers.  Local first responders, such as firefighters and law enforcement support staff were also served.

Amy Low, President of Phi Theta Kappa, explained that members participate in community service projects each month.

“They get a bad rap no matter what they do,” said Jason Briggs, Vice President of Media Relations for Phi Theta Kappa. “It was just the way to go (for the service project), they put their lives on the line, we can at least give them a burger.”

Officers were provided a hamburger with all the fixings, chips and drinks.
