The Brownwood Lions gave up just a pair of runs, but failed to score for the second consecutive outing as the Brock Eagles clinched a District 6-4A baseball sweep with a 2-0 triumph at Morris Southall Field Friday night.
Coming off a 13-0, five-inning setback at Brock (17-2, 5-1) Tuesday, the Lions (10-14, 2-4) were seeking a third straight district series sweep as they also dropped the first game of their previous two 6-4A series.
Noah Gonzalez and Austin Wright combined to yield two earned runs – one each in the second and third innings – on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.
But Brock’s Jesse Rusinek, Carson Simmons and Canon Lightfoot combined on a two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and one walk.
In two games against Brock, the Lions tallied three total hits as Gonzalez and Dario Rodriguez both singled Friday.
The Eagles scored in the second inning on a bases-loaded walk with two outs, and in the third on a sacrifice fly.
The Lions visit Glen Rose (14-11, 1-5) – which defeated Stephenville (16-6-2, 2-4) by a 5-4 count Friday – at 7 p.m. Tuesday, then host the Tigers at 7 p.m. Thursday in their fourth of five two-game district series.
First-place Mineral Wells (13-7-1, 5-0) will host Graham (2-3) in 6-4A baseball action at noon Saturday to round out the week’s action.
