DIAMOND ROUNDUP: Lady Dragons top Coleman; Lady Horns, Dragons, Longhorns all defeated

BANGS – The Bangs Lady Dragons secured a 15-4 victory over Coleman Tuesday in District 8-2A softball action.

Tied at 1 after one inning, the Lady Dragons led 5-4 after two, then erupted for nine runs in the third inning and scored a final run in the fourth.

Bangs collected 17 hits – three by Justice Baker, who homered twice and drove in four; three from Mattisyn Taylor, who doubled twice and plated one run; two each from Aubree Buford and Adalynne Stephens, who both finished with a pair of RBIs; two from Cheyenne Rush, who knocked in one; a pair from Julianna Ethridge; and each one from Abby Wolf and Stormy Stringer.

In the circle, Wolf went the distance and allowed three earned runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. The Lady Dragons committed two errors behind her.

Eastland 12, Early Lady Horns 4

EASTLAND – The Early Lady Horns fell to 2-3 in District 8-3A softball action and 11-5 on the season with a 12-4 loss to Eastland Tuesday.

Early trailed 4-1 after two innings, 8-2 after three, closed the gap to 8-4 in the fifth, and allowed four more runs in the sixth.

The Lady Horns managed just five hits – two from Jamie Lyons and one each from Andie Simpson, who drove in three, Jordan Simmons and Aleeya McCombs.

In the circle, Leslee Beard and Kyleigh Caperton gave up a combined 12 earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and a dozen walks.

Coleman 15, Bangs Dragons 1

BANGS – The Bangs Dragons were handed a 15-1 loss to Coleman in District 7-2A baseball action Tuesday.

The Dragons fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first inning never recovered.

Bangs managed nine hits – two each by Jaxon Duncan and Caiden Orosco, and one apiece from Hunter Crowell, Skylar Minshew, Connor Bible, Kaleb Biggs and Brennan Mendieta.

On the mound, Crowell, Duncan, Bible and Orosco surrendered seven earned runs on 12 hits with six strikeouts and six walks, while the Dragon defense committed seven errors behind them.

Breckenridge 4, Early Longhorns 2

EARLY – The Early Longhorns were doubled up in District 8-3A baseball action at home by Breckenridge, 4-2, Tuesday.

The Longhorns trailed 1-0 after one inning, but pulled even in the second. Down 2-1 in the top of the third, Early again tied the game at 2 in the bottom half of the frame. Breckenridge then tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, which proved to be the difference.

Early was limited to five hits – one each by Jaxson Stockman, Jack Nowell, Rowan McDermed, Brennan Rasor and Angel Marquez.

On the mound, Eli Pallette pitched all seven innings and gave up two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks. The Longhorn defense committed a pair of errors behind him.
