Broughton0001Funeral Services for Samuel (Sam) Raymond  Broughton Jr., age 70, of Zephyr, Texas will be held 10:00 AM Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Zephyr Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.  Mr. Broughton passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015 at his residence.

Sam was born on September 28, 1944 in Brownwood, Texas to Samuel Raymond and Ruth Hightower Broughton.  He served in the United States Air Force 1965 – 1970. On August 2, 1967 he married Dorothy Gerdts in Papillion, Nebraska.  A lifetime resident of Brown County, Sam worked at 3M for 36 years before retirng 2002. He was an avid hunter and sportsman.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Broughton of Zephyr; daughter Denise Porter of Zephyr; three grandchildren Sabree, Hailey and Stormie Porter all of Zephyr; sister Glenda Peikert and husband Tommy of Brownwood; sisters-in-law Caroline Morgan of Elk, Washington and Lois Nash of Pollock Pines, California; brothers-in-law Carl Messner and wife Terrie of Salem, Nebraska and Charles Messner and wife Kathy of Salem.  Also, by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Sandra Howze and by a nephew Albert Williams.
