LLANO – The Brownwood Lady Lions collected a 5-1 victory over Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 4A No. 8 Marble Falls, and followed with a 6-1 triumph against Plainview Friday at the Llano softball tournament.
In the victory over state-ranked Marble Falls, Brownwood scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings and added two more runs in the fifth, while allowing just a single run in the top of the first.
Kaydence Allen tossed a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks for the Lady Lions. The Brownwood defense committed only one error, while Marble Falls tallied four miscues.
Offensively, Brownwood amassed six hits – two by Tynlea Wilson, who knocked in two runs, along with one apiece by Allen, Jeniffer Romero, Carlee Burks and Chloe Walls. Peyton Pena also drew a walk for the Lady Lions.
Against Plainview, the Lady Lions struck for a run in the top of the first inning then added four more in the second. Plainview tallied its run in the bottom half of the second, but Brownwood answered that run in the top of the fourth to close out the scoring.
Brownwood racked up nine hits – two each by Romero, Burks and Allen and one apiece by Lila Mares, Walls, and Wilson, who belted a solo home run. Burks led the team with a pair of RBIs while Walls and Mares also drove in a run each.
In the circle, Wilson and Allen teamed up to allow one earned run on five hits with a pair of strikeouts and three walks.
Defensively, the Lady Lions got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first inning when a line drive deflected off Wilson’s thigh in the circle and was caught by Hanah Campos at shortstop for the second out, and Campos fired to Burks at third to double up the base runner and complete and inning-ending double play.
The Lady Lions will complete tournament action against Wall at 4:50 p.m. Saturday.
