Through the first two games of the 2025 baseball season, the Brownwood Lions have not yielded a run as they opened play in the Brown County Tournament Friday night at the new Morris Southall Field with a 1-0 victory over Sweetwater.
On the heels of a 3-0 triumph over San Angelo Lake View Monday night on their home turf, the Lions (2-0) received a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and only one walk over six innings from starting pitcher Harrison Sweeney.
The time limit contest ended after the bottom of the sixth inning, and the Lions scratched across the only run of the contest shortly before the final out was recorded.
Brownwood started the bottom of the sixth with a walk by leadoff batter Antonio Ybarra, then Austin Pittman moved Ybarra to second base with a sacrifice bunt. With one down, Austin Wright came through with an RBI single that was laced into right field, and a diving Ybarra narrowly beat the throw to the plate for the only run.
Wright accounted for all three Brownwood hits in the contest, adding a two-out double in the bottom of the first inning, and a one-one double in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lions conclude tournament action at home Saturday against Perryton at 4 p.m. and Gatesville at 6 p.m.
