Gerald DeViney

A graveside funeral service for Gerald DeViney, age 86, of Brownwood, will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 17, 2025, in the Jones Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

Gerald passed from this life on Friday, January 10, 2025, at his home.

Gerald Trigg DeViney was born on November 17, 1938, in Kyle, to John and Nana Ruth (Drumm) DeViney.  He was raised in Early and graduated from Early High School.  Following high school, Gerald served his country in the US Air Force for four years.  He went on to earn his Doctorate in Biology from Texas A&M University.  He taught Biology at Texas A&M, Howard Payne University, and Cisco Junior College.  Gerald married Ida Nell Hinson on March 30, 1958.  Gerald was a member of the Jones Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ida Nell DeViney; two sons, Gary DeViney and wife Jamie of Early and Mark DeViney and wife Tammy of Kennedale; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Glenda Hinson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dennis DeViney.
