PublicLibraryWeek2015In celebration of National Library Week, Brownwood Public Library (BPL) will host a “Local Celebrity Read Aloud” on Tuesday, April 14, 4:00-6:00 PM.  Featured readers include Brownwood mayor Stephen Haynes, KOXE’s Carl Wayne, Pastor Tim Skaggs, Early mayor Robert Mangrum, a Brownwood firefighter, East Elementary principal Nanda Wilburn, and others.   The event is come and go, with different readers scheduled approximately every 15 minutes.  Light refreshments are planned, and the first 25 families attending will receive a new book to keep (one per family).  Admission is free.

“We invite everyone to join us for some read-aloud fun at the library,” said BPL children’s librarian, Beth Painter.  “We hope it will be enjoyable for all ages. Even adults love hearing a good story read aloud.”

This year’s National Library Week theme is “Unlimited Possibilities @ your library.”

“The library has always been a place of unlimited possibilities,” said BPL board member, Sally Porter. “Whatever your interest, a library is a great place to find resources to pursue your goals and dreams.”

Also during National Library Week, the library plans to launch its “Library Tomorrow” survey, designed to gather input about how BPL can best serve our community, according to library board president Frank Hilton.  BPL is eager to work with local residents, businesses, elected officials, and the public at large to discover and meet the shared library needs of the Brown County community, Hilton said.

“We hope everyone took the city’s recent Parks and Recreation department survey, and we hope everyone will take the library survey, too.  Ours has fewer than 10 questions, and we sincerely value the community’s input,” Hilton said.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April.

For more information, visit the Brownwood Public Library at 600 Carnegie Blvd. (across from the new fire station), call 325-646-0155 or visit www.brownwoodpubliclibrary.com.  Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9-6; Tuesday, Thursday 9-8; and Saturday 9-1.
