Area artist Jillian Johnson will be honored in a Celebration of Life memorial exhibit, opening this week at the Brownwood Art Association Art Center.

Jillian Johnson passed away Nov. 22 after a brief illness. She was an active member of the Art Association and a founding member of the BAA Fiber and Textile Arts group. He work includes gouache paintings, paper-pieced quilts of original designs, macramé, and a wide variety of fiber arts. She was recently recognized for her fiber art piece in the BAA “Vessels” juried exhibit.

The memorial exhibit opens Thursday, Jan. 2, 5 to 7 pm, at the Art Center in Downtown Brownwood, and will be on display through Jan. 9. Select pieces will be available for sale. The exhibit is open to the public free of charge.

Born in 1953 in Kermit, Texas, Jillian was a magna cum laude graduate of Sul Ross University, where she earned a masters degree in Speech and Communications. She was an adjunct professor at South Texas College in Eagle Pass. She moved to Brownwood in 2014.
