The City of Brownwood announced the following on social media Tuesday morning:

A funeral procession honoring former Mayor Bert V. Massey, II will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2024 following the funeral service at First Baptist Church.

Mayor Massey’s dedication to his community was evident through his service as a Member of the Brownwood City Council from 1978 to 1984 and as Mayor from 1984 to 2010. Mayor Massey was the longest serving mayor in the history of Brownwood and was the longest continuous elected official for the City with a total of 29 years.

The attached map outlines the procession route from First Baptist Church to the Brownwood Event Center Complex. Brownwood Police Department and Brownwood Fire Department will control intersections to ensure the smooth flow of the procession. A temporary lane closure along Center Avenue, with single lane traffic moving eastbound to remain open.

City offices will temporarily be closed from 2:30 to 3:30 PM for employees participating in the honor procession. Any member of the public are welcome to join City Staff lining Center Avenue to pay respect.
