For the second time since late September, Lake Brownwood is at full capacity thanks to heavy rains northwest of the lake that began Thursday. Areas from Coleman to Cross Plains received almost 6 inches of rain in the last 24 hours, which has fed into the Pecan Bayou and thus Lake Brownwood.

According to waterdatafortexas.org, as of 5:30 p.m. Friday the lake water level was at 1,425.24 feet, which is 0.34 feet over the capacity of 1,424.9 feet, and is expected to continue rising. The water level has increased 0.96 feet in a 24-hour span.

Lake Brownwood recently reached full capacity on Sept. 23 and peaked at 1,426.4 feet – 1.5 feet above pool – on Sept. 25. Though the water level had receded it stood at 1,424.28 feet Thursday, just 0.62 feet below the spillway.

Prior to September, Lake Brownwood was last over the spillway three years ago as the water level peaked at 1,425.93 on Aug. 19, 2021.
