PerformancePipePhotoThe Brownwood, Texas plant of Performance Pipe, a division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP, has operated without a single recordable injury for four years, and while this is an important achievement, Plant Manager Mike Hemm said that there is no finish line when it comes to safety.

“I am proud of all our employees for their personal commitment and daily efforts to keep themselves and their teammates free from injury,” said Hemm. “However, we have to remain vigilant about safety because it is a journey that never ends. You must be engaged each and every day.”

The Brownwood plant opened in 1962, and today, it is one of the largest producers of continuous high-density polyethylene extrusion pipe in North America. The pipe is used in a variety of industries including natural gas, municipal, mining, oilfield and utility.

Last year, the plant hit new shipping, quality and production records. “Holding each other accountable for safety in the workplace for more than 1,000 days is significant, but then to also surpass the plant’s production performance, now that’s remarkable,” said Hemm.

Performance Pipe General Manager Lawyer C. Jolley said that the Brownwood facility is a shining example for the entire Performance Pipe division. “The extra attention to safety, environmental compliance, quality, reliability and customer satisfaction is paying huge dividends for the facility and the division,” said Jolley. “I believe that they have challenged the rest of the organization with an ambitious but certainly, attainable goal.”

He added, “We all recognize the tremendous amount of work and dedication that goes into achieving this level of performance, and we want to make sure our team knows how proud we are of them.”

To maintain the plant’s success for years to come, management will continue to hire well-qualified employees to join the Performance Pipe team. “While we might not be hiring today, we will in the near future, as more and more of our employees reach retirement eligibility,” said Hemm.

Performance Pipe operates facilities across the U.S. in Reno, Nevada, Brownwood, Texas, Pryor, Oklahoma, Bloomfield, Iowa, Fairfield, Iowa, Knoxville, Tennessee, Williamstown, Kentucky, Startex, South Carolina and Hagerstown, Maryland.
