VITATaxHelpLogoFree tax filing assistance is available to low to moderate income tax payers, the elderly, and those with disabilities February 3 through April 15th through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

The VITA program is available because of volunteers who offer free the free service to these select groups of citizens.

Those who worked a job in 2014, earned less than $52,000 and live in Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland or McCulloch Counties may qualify for up to $6,044 back in earned income and other tax credits, according to organizers.  Benefits of the VITA program include electronic tax return filing, fast refunds, and no tax preparation fees.

To obtain this free service, call 325-625-4167 or visit Texas State Technical College at 305 Booker Street in Brownwood.  Sessions are available February 3rd through April 15th on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM.

Items needed for tax preparation include:  valid photo ID, social security cards for all household members, copies of all 2014 W2 forms, copy of 2013 tax return, and all other tax forms to be filed (such as child care, tuition and etc.)

The VITA program is sponsored by Central Texas Opportunities, the Internal Revenue Service, and Texas State Technical College.
