Lake Brownwood, Memorial Day weekend 2024

The significant September rainfall in and around Brownwood has resulted in a massive increase in the Lake Brownwood water level.

As of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, the lake level was at 1,423.72 feet according to waterdatafortexas.org, just 1.18 feet shy of being full, and continues to climb.

The current water level marks an increase of 3.18 feet from Saturday, Aug. 30 when the lake level stood at 1,420.54 feet, and is the most water in Lake Brownwood since Nov. 9, 2021 when the level was 1,423.73 feet, according to brownwood.lakesonline.com.

Prior to Wednesday, Lake Brownwood’s water level had not exceeded 1,423 feet since January of 2022. Back on June 13 of this year, Lake Brownwood peaked at 1,422.98 feet of water and was 89.6 percent capacity, the highest levels since Jan. 18, 2022. Summer heat and drought drained 2.4 feet of water out of the lake in the month and a half, ahead of the recent rains.
