Interment will follow in Eastland City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the funeral home.

Bill was born on May 2, 1959, in Midland, Texas, to Billy Joe Whaley, Sr. and Rhetta Jo (Gunter) Doss. He was employed with Oncor Energy for 41 years; in addition, he was a carpenter and electrician. Bill married Sue Lynne Maxwell on June 2, 2010, at the Botanical Gardens in Dallas, Texas.

Bill was a loving Christian husband and father who was a firm believer in choosing his own family. There was no distinction among his children whether biological, step, or in-law as he saw them all as his sons and daughters. As a husband, Bill was an amazing provider and protector who loved Sue with all his heart.

Bill’s hobbies included playing and coaching baseball, bull riding, fishing, riding his motorcycle, and cooking for others as he was an amazing cook who likely added several pounds to all of us.

Bill was a servant, mentor, and teacher who had immense patience with all of us. The things that mattered most to him was taking care of his family and being a grandpa.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Whaley of Cisco; children, Julie Lacy and husband, J. Ross of Midland, Rhett Whaley and wife, Jennifer of League City, Caleb Gulley and wife, Baillie of Abilene, Mackenzie Kent and husband, Austin of Cisco, Lexi Jones and husband, Cole of Cisco, and Payton Whaley and wife, Cailey of Abilene; 11 grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, Olivia, Davis, Hudson, Korbin, Jett, Tripp, Jade,  Jaxon, and Scarlett; a sister, Jolyn Knight and husband Jerry of Brownwood; a brother, Jeffrey Whaley and wife Terry of Edmond, Oklahoma; and numerous friends who were like family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Whaley, Sr. and Jo Doss.

Pallbearers will be Rhett Whaley, Caleb Gulley, Payton Whaley, J. Ross Lacy, Austin Kent, and Cole Jones.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Whaley and Jerry Knight.

Donations can be made in Bill’s honor to Lake Cisco Christian Camp, Foster’s
