CityofBrownwoodlogo_smallJust a day after the Brownwood City Council passed an ordinance calling for a special election to fill the empty Ward 2 council seat; two candidates have already tossed their hats in the ring.

Former Ward 2 City Councilman Ed McMillian turned in his paperwork to become a candidate on Tuesday.  A race developed on Wednesday as Eddie Watson also filed.

The Ward 2 seat was recently vacated by H.D. Jones when he moved from Ward 2 to a new home in Ward 1.  The city charter requires councilmembers to step down if they move out of the Ward they represent.

Jones has filed as a candidate for the Ward 1 council seat.  He is running against Steven McCrane.

The filing period for candidates in the Ward 2 position runs from March 23, 2010 through April 7, 2010.   The special election for the Ward 2 councilmember will be held in conjunction with the regular election on May 8th.

The May 8th City elections are shaping up as follows:

Mayor

  • Stephen Haynes
  • Dennis Graham
  • Fred Spencer
  • Gary Maas

Councilmember Ward 1

  • Steven McCrane
  • H.D. Jones

Councilmember Ward 2

  • Ed McMillian
  • Eddie Watson

Councilmember Ward 4

  • Draco Miller
