Virginia Jamison, a dedicated educator and beloved member of the community, passed away on the 24th of July 2024, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sarah Virginia Pate on June 1, 1929, in Cross Plains, Texas, to her parents, Isaac Samuel Pate and Mary Ellen Owen Pate.

Virginia had an illustrious career as an educator that spanned 36 years. She touched the lives of students at Whon, Centennial, Mozelle, and Panther Creek before retiring in 1990. Even after retirement, Virginia’s passion for education never wavered as she continued to inspire and educate former students and adults alike. Her specialty was teaching Home Economics and Jr. High Science.  

In June 1951, Virginia married the love of her life, Curtis “Dick” Jamison, in Voss. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. Virginia’s role as a wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend brought immense joy to those around her.

Virginia’s educational journey began at Voss Elementary School and culminated with a bachelor’s degree in home economics from North Texas State University. She was a lifelong learner who valued education and knowledge.

Known for her bright and loving personality, Virginia was deeply involved with her family and community. Her hobbies included cooking delicious meals for others, sewing intricate designs as a talented seamstress, reading avidly, and sharing her knowledge of Coleman County history. She also found solace in playing the piano and listening to classical music.

Throughout her life, Virginia achieved numerous milestones that made her immensely proud. She was a dedicated member of various organizations including the Daughters of the American Revolution, was a lifetime member of the Association of Texas Professional Educators, Retired Teachers Association, Farm Bureau, Gouldbusk Rodeo Association, Voss Volunteer Fire Department, and Voss Cemetery Association. 

Virginia also served countless hours to her beloved community.  She served as secretary on the board for Coleman County Medical Center and Coleman Library Board.  She was also the only female to serve on the school board for Mozelle School District.  

Virgina was awarded Teacher of The Year in 2006 from the Mozelle High School Reunion, Outstanding Ex-Teacher from Mozelle Homecoming in 1991, and Top Hand Award in 2004 from the Panther Creek Livestock Association. 

Virginia is survived by her daughter Sarah Beal and husband Steve of Coleman; son Chris Jamison and wife Cindy of Coleman; cherished grandchildren Daniel Beal and wife Mindy, Candace Beal, Colt Jamison and wife Cecelia; Kirstie Jamison and significant other Nick Malone; great-grandchildren Cali Beal and Eevee Jo Jamison; sisters-in-law Betty Scarborough of Coleman and Norene Jamison of Voss.

She is preceded in death by her parents Isaac Samuel Pate and Mary Ellen Owen Pate; husband Curtis Dick Jamison; siblings Eileen Pate, Sammy Pate, Dr. David Pate.

The family will host a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service celebrating her remarkable life at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2024, at First Methodist Church, 500 W. Live Oak Street, in Coleman. Interment will follow in the Voss Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Matt Jamison, Paul Skelton, Jerry Don Stephenson, Colt Jamison, James Short, and Davey Thweatt.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Allen, Rick Jennings, Larry Camper, Daniel Beal, Ben Scott, Patrick Justiss, Anthony Strawn, and Keith Phillips.

Virginia’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in peace knowing that she has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her.
