Julia Mae Hicks

HicksFuneral services for Julia Mae George Hicks, 91, of Brownwood will be held at 2 PM Monday, Nov. 3, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Art Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Julia passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 31, 2014, at Brownwood Nursing & Rehab surrounded by family.

She was born on April 29, 1923, in Grosvenor, Texas, the daughter of Henry and Julia Sims George. She was married to Ira Andrew Hicks on Aug. 6, 1941, in Brownwood. She was an employee at Texas Feathers and later retired from Brownwood ISD, where she worked as a custodian. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends playing dominoes and cards. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Julia Sims George; and her husband, Ira Andrew Hicks; and her daughter Ira Sue Roberts.

She is survived by her son, Butch Hicks and wife Martha of Brownwood; four grandchildren, Teena Dickerson and husband Stewart of Early, Rocky Roberts and wife Kristi of Early, Kyle Hicks of Austin, and Lance Hicks and wife Heather of Early; and seven great-grandchildren, Cody Dickerson and wife Amanda of Abilene, Kayla Dickerson of Early, Chelcy Hicks of Austin, Justin Hicks of Brownwood, Abbi Hicks of Austin, Ryan Hicks of Brownwood, and Roxilynn Roberts of Early.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rocky Creek Baptist Church, Salt Creek Baptist Church, Gentiva Hospice Services, or Good Samaritan Ministries.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Locklear, Brownwood Nursing and Rehab, and Gentiva Hospice Services.
