Brownwood graduate Shelby Miller on Thursday night picked up his fourth victory of the season out of the bullpen for the Detroit Tigers.

Miller pitched 1.1 innings of relief in Detroit’s 7-2 win over the Washington Nationals, as he allowed one run on one hit before the Tigers erupted for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

For the season, Miller owns a 4-4 record with a 3.80 ERA in 19 games, with 20 strikeouts in 21 and a third innings pitched.

Miller, 33, now owns a 45-62 record in 12 seasons with one save and a 4.08 ERA in 222 games, including 133 starts, and 841.1 innings pitched. Miller has struck out 706 batters.

Miller signed with the Tigers prior to the 2024 campaign – the ninth team of his career along with the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Miller made his MLB debut on September 5, 2012 with St. Louis.

On May 11, 2013, Miller tossed a one-hitter with the Cardinals, retiring the final 27 Colorado Rockies batters in a row after yielding a lead-off single. Miller notched 13 strikeouts in the contest.

Miller appeared in the 2015 All-Star Game as a member of the Braves, as he posted a 3.02 ERA in 33 starts with a 6-17 record. Miller was one out away from recording a no-hitter against the Florida Marlins on May 17, 2015.

After Thursday’s action, the Tigers possess a 33-35 record and are 11 games behind the first-place Cleveland Guardians (43-23) in the AL Central standings.
