At today’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioner’s Court, honor and recognition was given to the Early High School Drama Department for winning the Class 3A State Championship in One-Act Play.  The Drama Department performed “Silent Sky,” and was named State Champion at the UIL competition in Austin last week.  The play was directed by Caitlyn Tidwell.  She praised her cast and crew for the extreme hard work and dedication they contributed to this year’s production.  Below is the text of the Proclamation passed by the Commissioners Court.

In other business in the short meeting, Commissioners approved the agenda minutes from the previous meeting on May 13, and approval was given to the payment of bills as presented by the County Auditor.

PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING EARLY HIGH SCHOOL ONE-ACT PLAY AS STATE CHAMPIONS

WHEREAS, the Brown County Commissioner’s Court desires to recognize exemplary achievements by the residents of Brown County;

WHEREAS, Brown County has a rich history of performing arts, including, but not limited to, local high schools competing in UIL theater activities through the annual One-Act Play competition;

WHEREAS, education theater is a creative and practical activity that is culturally enlightening and a creative segment of academic life which becomes much more than an extracurricular activity, more than a medium of entertainment and more than just a class play;

WHEREAS, annually the University Interscholastic League holds a state-wide competition where similarly sized Texas schools present an 40 minute play and are adjudicated by a panel of three judges.  Schools then advance through competitions at District, Area, Regional and State;

WHEREAS, each year, thousands of High Schools participate in One-Act competitions that culminate in a state championship competition;

WHEREAS, during the recent state championships, the Early High School’s One-Act performance of “Silent Sky” received three number one rankings, the highest awards possible, from the judges;

NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Commissioner’s Court of Brown County, do hereby recognize the Early High School One-Act Play as the UIL Class 3A State Champions and commend you on the hard work and dedication required to be called State Champions.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we have hereunto set our hands and caused our signatures to be affixed hereto.

Signed by County Judge Shane Britton, Commissioner Gary Worley, Commissioner Joel Kelton, Commissioner Wayne Shaw, and Commissioner Larry Traweek.
