Demolition began this week on the abandoned Medical Arts Hospital building located on the corner of W. Anderson and Booker near the Texas State Technical College campus.

The Brownwood Economic Development Corporation received approval from the city last month to proceed with asbestos abatement and demolition of the building.  The City of Brownwood owns the building and the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation is paying for the abatement and demolition.  The estimated cost of the entire project is approximately $75,000.

James Campbell, Executive Director of the BEDC, said that they expect the demolition of the building to be completed within the next 30 days.  Campbell also indicated that Texas State Technical College will use the property for parking and for possible future expansion of the school.

Renovation and future use of the building was not possible due to structural damage to the sub-floor.
