Early Girls Softball 6U league champions spent Mother’s Day weekend in Clyde battling teams from Clyde and Merkel, before battling the weather.
After a close loss to Clyde in pool play, Early faced higher seeded Merkel Fuego in the first game of bracket play. Early came out on top with a 3-2 victory keeping them in the winners bracket.
The rain and Thunder storms forced tournament directors to decide on an overnight rain delay.
Optimistically, all winners bracket teams returned Sunday morning in hopes of continuing the fight for the title, but weather won again.
After runs scored, and runs allowed were calculated, the Early Fury was awarded 4th place out of 17 teams.
The bunch of 6 & u softballs are set to compete in the State Championship June 7-9 in Abilene.
