The City of Brownwood issued the following press release Thursday on behalf of Mayor Stephen Haynes regarding Greenleaf Cemetery, whose future operations are in question due to financial difficulty:

“Greenleaf Cemetery has been operated by a private non-profit entity known as the Greenleaf Cemetery Association for many years.  Recently, the Association has indicated that it is insolvent and may need to cease operations this month.  The City is corresponding with the Association regarding their current financial crisis.  Should the Association cease to operate the cemetery, the City Council will meet at the earliest possible date to discuss all available options.  If necessary, the City will maintain the grounds on an interim basis until a more permanent solution can be found and implemented.”
