Early Police Cheif David Mercer reported three seperate traffic stops that invovled drinking or drugs.

*Saturday morning, approximately 3:40 am, Police Officer Johnny Brown and Deputy Jed Polnick stopped a blue Buick Lasabre for a violation of speeding and suspicious activity in the 100 block of Early Blvd. according to Early Police reports. The vehicle finally stopped in the Wal-Mart parking lot where Officer Brown identified the driver as 29-year-old Eddie Ray Hyer, Jr. of Clyde and the passenger as 25-year-old Emily Diane Cole of Abilene according to police reports.

It was further noted in the police reports that after interviewing the occupants, neither Hyer nor Cole could produce the same story about what they were doing or where they were going.  Officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle and located a glass smoking pipe used for smoking methamphetamines in a small baggie. A small amount of methamphetamines were located with the pipe. The individuals admitted to smoking “ice”, which is a form of methamphetamines, earlier according to the reports.

*In an unrelated incident, early Sunday morning was also eventful.  Officer Steven Means stopped a vehicle at 12:50am for exceeding the posted speed limit in the 1300 block of Early Blvd according to police reports.  Officer Means made contact with the driver, 49-year-old Kayla Furry of Blanket, who displayed signs that she had been drinking as stated.  It was further noted in the reports that Officer Means conducted a field sobriety test on Furry then placed her under arrest after she failed the test. Officer Means obtained a search warrant for blood from Judge Frank Griffin.  Furry was placed in the Brown Co Jail.

FortuneBenjamin*In a separate incident on Sunday, reports state Officer Pattimae Furry stopped a white pickup on Hwy 183 north along with Trooper Chris Delgado, at approximately 11:25 am after receiving reports that the driver was smoking marijuana while driving.  It was noted in the report, that upon being questioning by Delgado and Furry, it was learned that the driver, 26-year-old Benjamin Seth Fortune of Brownwood, did have marijuana in the vehicle along with drug paraphernalia.  Fortune was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and no insurance.
