BOYS HOOPS ROUNDUP: Longhorns clinch playoff berth on final night of season

EARLY – By virtue of a 72-47 win over the Dublin Lions in their home and regular season finale, a Comanche Indians loss to Millsap Tuesday night, the Early Longhorns secured the fourth and final playoff berth from District 8-3A for the UIL boys basketball state playoffs.

Early (16-12, 7-7) led 10-6 after one quarter, 30-24 at halftime, and 52-35 heading into the final period.

Kamden Gamblin’s 25 points fueled the Early offense along with 14 from Dalton Adams, eight apiece from Rohyn Price and Josh Hill, four from Alex Perez, three each from Jacob McDaniel, Will Prochaska and Andrew Caten, and two points apiece from C Schroeder and Weston Barton.

The Longhorns will face District 7 champion Holliday at 6 p.m. Monday in Graham.

May Tigers 63, Baird 38

MAY – The playoff-bound May Tigers concluded the regular season Tuesday afternoon with a 63-38 triumph over Baird.

May (21-8, 8-2) – which will be the second playoff seed from District 13-A – led 19-8 after one period, 32-22 at halftime, and 54-27 through three quarters of play.

Scoring for the Tigers were Ben Harrell with 17 points, Jackson Lusk with 12, Brody Stice with nine, Mikey Scheriger with eight, Ryland Billadeau with six, Zack Martin with five, and Kaden Watkins and Ace Koethler with three points apiece.

Richland Springs defeated Lohn

RICHLAND SPRINGS – The Richland Springs Coyotes completed an undefeated run to the District 17-A championship Tuesday night with a home victory over Lohn.

Richland Springs (18-4) will open its postseason run at 7:30 p.m. Monday against Gustine at Brownwood Coliseum, which will follow Zephyr vs. Lometa at 6 p.m.
