Otis Wade Stephens, age 69, passed away at home on Tuesday, July 15, 20l4, after a five and a half year battle with prostate cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m Friday, July 18, 2014, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, with Dallas Huston officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 Thursday at Davis Morris Funeral Home.

Otis was born to Stafford and Mamie Stephens Dec. 23, 1944, in Coleman, Texas. Otis grew up in Trickham, Texas, graduated from Brookesmith High School and went to work that fall at TP&L Electric and continued to work through all the changes from TXU. He retired 46 years later from Oncor Electric.

Otis’ hobbies were gardening, canning, and cooking. He raised some of the most gorgeous gardens in Brown County for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Stephens; a son, Hunter Stephens and wife Becky of Wylie; a daughter, Heather Edgar and husband Dwayne of Brownwood; two stepdaughters, Beverly Hamilton and husband Todd of Early and Sabrina Simpson of Florence. Also nine grandchildren, Mayson Stephens of Wylie, Levi Westerman of Midland, Cheyenne Westerman of Stephenville; Justin, Bryan, and Amber Harris of Brownwood; Shali, Sydne, and Rustin Simpson of Florence; great-granddaughter, Zoie Harris; two sisters, Betty Sharp of Bangs, Wanda Weathermon and husband Ellis of Comanche; brother-in-law, Tom Collins and wife Pat of Burnett; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Roberts and husband Martin of San Angelo and Lou Hewgley of Helotes; numerous nephews and nieces, as well as a number of close friends from Oncor Electric that are considered family, especially Billy Cumba, his No. 1 bud.

Otis was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Bob Sharp; brother-in-law, James Hewgley; and nephew Greg Sharp.
