HOOPS ROUNDUP: May teams knock off Moran; Bangs swept by Coleman, Early drops pair to Comanche

MORAN – The May Lady Tigers improved to 3-0 in District 13-A action and 18-6 on the season with a 65-9 win at Moran Friday night.

The Lady Tigers led 19-3 after one quarter, 38-9 at halftime, and 59-9 through three periods.

Leading the charge for May were Kenlyn King with 21 points, Jordyn Gerhardt with 14, Holli Brown with 12, Estrella Bustamante with six, and Chloe Lord, Rebekah Roberts and McKenna Landes with four points apiece.

May Tigers 76, Moran 27

MORAN – The May Tigers kicked off District 13-A basketball action Friday night with a lopsided 76-27 victory at Moran.

The Tigers (14-6, 1-0) led 18-5 after one quarter, 39-13 at halftime, and 56-20 heading into the final stanza.

Pacing May’s offense were Ben Harrell with 21 points, Brody Stice with 15, Zack Martin with 10, Cayson Dahl with nine, J.D. White and Wyatt Hardy with seven apiece, Jackson Lusk with four, and Ryland Billadeau with three points.

Coleman Bluekatts 36, Bangs Lady Dragons 32

COLEMAN – The Bangs Lady Dragons slipped to 1-2 in District 8-2A action with a narrow 36-32 loss at Coleman Friday night.

The Lady Dragons led 10-7 after one quarter and 19-15 at halftime, but Coleman grabbed a 30-22 advantage after three periods.

Joey Newton poured in 12 points for Bangs followed by Kasey Solis with 11, Neeley Bradley with four, Raylee Hutchins with three and Cheyenne Rush with two points.

Coleman was led by 14 points from Katy Elder and eight points from Chaney Rosales.

Comanche Maidens 64, Early Lady Horns 40

EARLY – The Early Lady Horns dipped to 2-5 in District 8-3A basketball action with a 64-40 home loss to the Comanche Maidens Friday night.

Early trailed 18-8 after one period, 38-14 at halftime, and 52-19 heading into the final quarter.

Lindsey Bastardo finished with 13 points for Early trailed by Dakota Barksdale with nine, Cali Vargas with six, Jamie Vassar with five, Pearl Sharp and Jenna Hataway with three apiece, and Cassidy Frerichs with one point.

J’Lee Salinas’ 23 points were a game-high for Comanche.

Comanche Indians 59, Early Longhorns 48

EARLY – The Early Longhorns tumbled to 1-4 against District 8-3A competition with a 59-48 home setback to the Comanche Indians Friday night.

The Longhorns were down 19-12 after one quarter, 29-17 at intermission, and 46-32 after three periods.

For Early, Kamden Gamblin scored 18 points followed by Rohyn Price and Weston Barton with six apiece, Andrew Reedy with four, and Alex Perez, Will Prochaska, Andrew Catan, and Dalton Adams with three points each.

Sawyer Wilkerson, with 22 points, and CT Buford, with 14 points, sparked Comanche.
