Mary Lenora Long

Mary Lenora Long, a beloved member of the Brownwood community, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023, at the age of 77. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Grace Baptist Church, 103 Salt Creek Dr., Early, Texas 76802

Lenora was born on May 24, 1946, in Mississippi, Lenora was the daughter of the late Jack Swinford and Quilla Steffey. She resided in Brownwood, Texas for several years, where she enriched the lives of those around her with her kindness and compassion.

Lenora began her journey in education at Tatum High School in Tatum, New Mexico. Lenora was a woman of many talents and worked in various occupations throughout her life, leaving a positive impact on those she encountered. She eventually found her calling as a bank teller in the banking industry. Lenora’s strong faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was an active member of Grace Baptist Church in Early, Texas. She wholeheartedly embraced the church community and enthusiastically participated in its activities. Lenora’s commitment to her faith exemplified her kind and compassionate nature. In her free time, Lenora found solace in the pages of books and the challenge of assembling puzzles with her dear friends at the assisted living facility. She cherished these moments of camaraderie and intellectual stimulation. Lenora was also a devoted animal lover and always had one or two dogs by her side, providing them with love and care. Lenora was united in marriage to the love of her life, Glen Long, sharing a partnership filled with love and companionship. Although Lenora and Glen did not have any children of their own, they created a loving family through their numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately regarded them as their own parents and grandparents.

Lenora will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her cherished sister, Deloria Hughes of Granbury, Texas. She will also be fondly remembered by her nephews, Dallas Hughes and his wife Tonya of Midlothian, Texas, Jeff Hughes and his wife Cindy of Ozark, Missouri, Gary Lentz and his wife Cindy of San Angelo, Texas, Randy Lentz and his wife Lori of Southlake, Texas, as well as her niece Connie Andrews and her husband Bobby of Eldorado, Texas. Lenora’s memory will be treasured by a great number of nieces and nephews, whose lives she touched with her love and mentorship.

Lenora was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Long; her parents, Jack Swinford and Quilla Steffey; and a sister, Doris Adkins Bradley.

Lenora’s kindheartedness and unwavering faith will forever remain in our hearts. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
