At today’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioners Court, approval was given to the purchase of a new hot water system for the County Jail.

At a previous meeting Sheriff Vance Hill reported that the jail’s hot water system, which uses large boilers, had failed and was not worth replacing as is.  A temporary repair was made, but Hill recommended replacing the boiler system with a tankless water heater system.  A request for proposal was issued, and only one bid was received.  Black Plumbing bid $110,385 to install a system of thirteen tankless water heaters. Also, Hill said a new water softening system is needed, which Black Plumbing bid at $16,485.  Before buying it, Hill wants to make sure it can supply the gallons-per-minute required in the new water heater system.

The Commissioners approved the purchase of the new tankless water heater system, and gave approval to the purchase of the water softening system, contingent upon it meeting the gallons-per-minute requirement.  The money for both purchases will come from the County’s contingency fund.

In other business, the Commissioners took no action on a burn ban, leaving the current No Burn Ban in place.
