Wanda Jean Hunter, age 76, a beloved homemaker, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2023, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home with her family by her side. She was born on October 17, 1947, in Coleman, Texas, to loving parents Clarence and Bobbie Jennings Smith.

Wanda dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, and her love was felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Wanda’s genuine compassion, kind heart, and unwavering support made her an irreplaceable presence in the lives of her loved ones.

During her working years, Wanda excelled in various roles at Anthony’s and Merle Norman in Coleman. However, it was through her role as a homemaker where she found her greatest joy and fulfillment. Her dedication and selflessness in caring for her family were truly remarkable.

In her free time, Wanda loved attending her grandchildren’s sports events and stock shows. She became their biggest cheerleader and took immense pride in their accomplishments. Wanda also enjoyed shopping and cherished the moments she spent with her family, creating lasting memories and filling the lives of her loved ones with happiness and love.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Dalton DeLeon; and her nephew, Randy Smith.

Wanda Jean Hunter is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Darrell Hunter of Coleman; three sons, Duwayne Hunter and wife Adel of Coleman, Michael Hunter and wife Kelly of College Station, and Scott Hunter and wife Holly of Coleman. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren that she adored, Brady Hunter and wife Jennifer, Darrian Hunter and wife Bailey, Denver Hunter, Dayden Hunter, Mercedes Taylor, Tanner Hunter and wife Cenzy, Payton Hunter and wife Morgan, Sidney Hunter, Seth Wickson, Matthew Wickson, Sarah Hitzfeld and husband Cooper and Amber Rader and husband Dylan along with seven great-grandchildren. Wanda also loved her siblings, Sherman Smith and wife Tammy of Coleman, her sister, Clarice Trammell of Abilene, and sister Patricia Constable of Wylie.

The family will host a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Hetzel officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. The family will greet friends after the committal service at the Bill Franklin Center.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made in memory of Wanda to The Dalton DeLeon Memorial Scholarship, 600 Airport Road, Coleman, Texas 76834 or to Cancer Services Network Inc. at www.cancerservicesnetwork.org.

Wanda Jean Hunter will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love, warmth, and compassion will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of her family and friends. We invite you to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with the Hunter family by signing the guestbook on Wanda’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com.
