HOOPS ROUNDUP: May girls pick up win; May boys split pair; Early boys and girls fall

MULLIN – The May Lady Tigers improved to 6-2 on the season with a 53-21 victory over Gustine in their Mullin tournament opener Thursday.

May led 23-4 after one quarter, 39-13 at halftime and 48-13 through three periods.

Jordyn Gerhardt led May with 18 points trailed by Mia Musick with 16, Chloe Lord with 10, McKenna Landes with five, and Estrella Bustamante and Kenleigh Williford with two each.

The Lady Tigers face Baird at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Mullin.

May Tigers 40, Bangs Dragons 27

De Leon Bearcats 53, May Tigers 36

DE LEON – The May Tigers split their first two games of the season at the De Leon tournament Thursday.

First, May fell in its season debut to host De Leon, 53-36.

The Tigers (0-1) were down 10-7 after one quarter, 23-19 at halftime, and 45-30 going into the third period.

Brody Stice led May with 13 points followed by Zack Martin with eight and Mikey Scheriger with six.

May rebounded with a 40-27 victory over Bangs.

The Tigers led 19-0 after one quarter, 25-9 at halftime, and 31-18 through three frames.

May received nine points from Stice and eight each from Martin and Jackson Lusk.

Stats for Bangs were not available.

Clyde Lady Bulldogs 50, Early Lady Horns 47

MILES – The Early Lady Horns were nipped in their opener at the Miles tournament against Clyde, 50-47, Thursday.

The Lady Horns (5-8) led 11-4 after one quarter, 20-12 at halftime and 36-26 after three quarters, but Clyde owned a 24-11 scoring edge over the final eight minutes.

Jamie Vassar scored a team-high 16 points for Early followed by 11 from Jenna Hataway, nine from Gabby Benson, five from Dakota Barksdale, and four from Lindsey Bastardo.

San Angelo Central JV 49, Early Longhorns 42

MILES – The Early Longhorns began play in the Miles tournament Thursday with a 49-42 loss to the San Angelo Central JV.

Early (1-2) trailed 9-8 after one quarter, 27-13 at halftime, and 39-25 through three periods.

Kamden Gamblin led the Longhorns with 11 points followed by nine from Dalton Adams, six each from Will Prochaska and Andrew Caten, three from Rohyn Price and two points apiece from Jacob McDaniel and Alex Perez.
