Lady Jacket soccer advances to ASC semifinals with 1-0 victory over ETBU

The Howard Payne women’s soccer team shutout East Texas Baptist 1-0 in the ASC Quarterfinals Tuesday, October 31st at Citizens National Bank Field.

Howard Payne improved to 10-6-2 overall following the victory versus ETBU.

How it Happened

Howard Payne broke the scoreless tie when Kendra Cecil scored her second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 29th minute. The goal held as the only score of the match.

The Lady Jackets registered 16 total shots including three by both Kendra Cecil and Brenna Douthit.

Graduate Kendra Cecil and sophomore Regan Noel registered full 90-minute games on the backend of the defense, helping HPU keep the Tigers off the board.

Emily Williamson earned win number seven making this 1-0 victory her third shutout of the year.

Game Notes

  • Howard Payne received one yellow card.
  • Emily Williamson collected seven saves for the Lady Jackets out of 16 total Tigers shots.
  • Howard Payne totaled seven shots on goal.

The Lady Jackets will move on to the semifinals of the ASC Tournament as they take on Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. This is the first time since 2014 the Lady Jackets have made the semifinals of the ASC Tournament when HPU lost 2-0 to UT Tyler.
