The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Monday morning:

On Sunday, October 15, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m, officers were dispatched to a reported disturbance in the 2400b block of 1st St.  The caller reported a male attacking kids on the streets and gunshots were heard.

When officers arrived, multiple people were observed standing in the road.  This group, mostly 18 to 20-year-olds, explained that a female at a home across the street shot at them.  Officer Justin Taylor approached that residence and met with the male homeowner who explained that he was tired of the males driving by on motorcycles “doing burnouts” and driving recklessly in the area.  The man explained that this is a constant problem and this evening he confronted one of the males as he drove by.  The male returned on foot with his friends and a fight broke out.

During the fight, the adult male’s girlfriend, 40-year-old Jacquelyn Khristina Carnes, exited the residence she shares with him and fired a shot from her 9mm pistol.  She explained that she did this only to scare off the males.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Carnes was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail where she was charged with Aggravated Assault w/a Deadly Weapon.

On Monday, October 16, 2023, at approximately 5 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 7/11 Convenience Store on Coggin Ave for a reported robbery in progress. The clerk called 911 reporting that 3 males ran in the store wearing masks and were breaking windows by the ATM machine.  The clerk was able to lock herself in the back room.

When officers arrived, they cleared the building to ensure the scene was safe and to locate the store clerk who was unharmed.  Investigation revealed that the suspects backed a pickup truck onto the front sidewalk and broke windows out, adjacent to the ATM machine.  They then wrapped a tow chain around the machine and appeared to try to drag the machine away from the building.  A large area of debris, tire marks and vehicle parts were scattered on the sidewalk and parking lot, but the ATM machine was not dislodged from its foundation.

The suspect pickup truck was located approximately 4 blocks away, abandoned.  It appears this vehicle was stolen.

            The investigation remains ongoing.
