I had no plans heading into this weekend.
None. Zip. Zero. Big fat Nada.
However, like most weekends, I found ways to occupy my time.
Dinner with a group of good friends, watching movies on TV, working on a guitar project that I have been putting off for a while. (OK, it still isn’t finished, but it’s not my fault! There’s a piece I need and I can’t decide what to get. OK, it’s my fault…)
But one thing happened this weekend that I didn’t expect.
Silence. Quiet. Tranquility.
And it was sheer perfection.
I had nothing to do on Saturday with one exception for an hour and a half that afternoon. Other than that I did laundry, some dishes that had begun to pile up. (Don’t judge, you do it too!) And I also just sat and enjoyed the lack of strains on my time.
There was no schedule to keep. No deadlines to meet. (This one is on Mondays, and doesn’t count!)
I was able to simply sit, and vegitate on the couch and in my Man-Chair and even enjoy the random act of simply falling asleep in said locations. (Yes, I spelled vegetate wrong, it’s my word. A cross between Meditate, and Vegetable, a fancy way of saying “space out”)
I didn’t attain any earth shattering life lessons to share with you, my reader, but I did come away with something.
Rest.
It’s underrated, and often unattainable, but is one of the most easily acquired commodities that we have that will show a HUGE return on investment.
For the low, low cost of a lazy afternoon, you, YES YOU can have a clear mind, a refreshed outlook, and maybe, just maybe, solve some of those little life riddles that we always end up pondering while we should be sleeping.
