Ihana Figueroa recorded one of the last two wins for Brownwood – and the only singles victory for the Lady Lions – in Thursday’s one-point district win over Gatesville.

The Brownwood High tennis team rallied, recording the final two points in a 10-9 District 6-4A victory over Gatesville Thursday, the first home match for the Lions and Lady Lions since Aug. 12.

No. 5 Ihana Figueroa (6-4, 4-6, 11-9 over Finn Rogers) in girls singles – the lone singles victory for the Lady Lions – and No. 6 Blake Hutchins (6-1, 4-6, 10-3 over Asa Hardcastle) in boys singles registered the tying and winning victories in 10-point tiebreakers, as Brownwood trailed 9-8 late.

Brownwood started fast with victories in five of seven doubles matches, led by a sweep from the Lions.

Notching doubles victories on the boys side were No. 1 River Prado and Tyler Mitchell (7-6[6], 6-3, 11-9 over Abraham Almendaviz and Jahaziel Martinez), No. 2 Wesley Goodrich and Eric Smith (6-3, 6-2 over Hardcastle and Zayden Charles), and No. 3 Hutchins and Caleb Dietlin (6-1, 6-1 over Tyson Crawford and Zach Stevens).

Securing doubles wins in girls action were No. 1 Emma Delgado and Raylei Hickey (6-4, 6-1 over Callie Smith and London Kizer) and No. 3 Ashlyn Bundick and Anna Daniel (6-3, 6-4 over Rogers and Ally Nichols).

Also picking up singles wins for the Lions were No. 1 Prado (6-0, 6-0 over Jack Armstrong), No. 4 Smith (6-3, 6-2 over Charles), and No. 5 Dietlin (6-0, 6-1 over Stephens).

Brownwood (10-4, 2-1) wraps up its District 6-4A schedule at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 at home against Stephenville.
