GLEN ROSE – Playing in one of the tougher Class 4A volleyball districts in the state, with two teams ranked in the Texas Girls Coaches Association Top 10 and another that has spent time in the Top 25, the Brownwood Lady Lions will need to be on their ‘A’ game each night to make a postseason push.

In Friday’s District 6-4A opener at Glen Rose, however, the Lady Lions were short-handed as they stumbled out of the gate with a three-set loss.

“The girls played hard through adversity,” said Lady Lions first-year head coach Cheyanne Lovelady. “We had two of our three seniors gone today and had new rotations and players stepping up to fill new roles. We started strong and competed well with Glen Rose, but we weren’t consistent enough to take that first set. I’m proud of what the girls learned from this game and I’m excited to see them compete Tuesday in Mineral Wells.”

Against Glen Rose (18-14, 1-0), the Lady Lions received six kills from Aubrie Felux, four each from Hannah Deen and Miranda Northcutt, and one from Trinity Roberts.

Deen, Molly Oliver and Arieseli Hernandez each served an ace, while Hernandez led the way with six assists, Icess Hall chipped in four and Jeniffer Romero was credited with one.

Defensively, Oliver tallied four digs trailed by one each from Deen, Romero, Hernandez and Aniah Hines – who also recorded the lone block for the Lady Lions.

Brownwood (7-20, 0-1) will venture to Mineral Wells at 6 p.m. Tuesday, then play its next four district matches at home.
