Brownwood tennis trumps Marble Falls, tripped by Fredericksburg

Brownwood (2-2) will be back in action at home Saturday as the Lions and Lady Lions host Graham at 9 a.m. and Sweetwater at 1:30 p.m.

MARBLE FALLS – For the second time in as many outings this season, the Brownwood High tennis team split two matches against their opponents.

On the heels of a 16-3 win over Big Spring and a 16-3 loss to Peaster at home this past Saturday, the Lions and Lady Lions knocked off Marble Falls 16-3 and fell to Fredericksburg, 19-0, Wednesday.

The Lady Lions led the charge against Marble Falls by sweeping all nine singles and doubles matches.

Earning wins in singles competition were No. 1 Emma Delgado (8-0), No. 2 Raylei Hickey (8-1), No. 2 Ashlyn Bundick (8-5), No. 4 Claire Meinecke (8-3), No. 5 Ihana Figueroa (8-0) and No. 6 Anna Daniel (8-0). Also picking up wins in matches that did not count toward the final tally were No. 7 Zoe Smith (8-0), No. 8 Jazzmyn Sanchez (8-0), and No. 9 Makenzie Williams (8-0).

Doubles victories belonged to the No. 1 duo of Hickey and Bundick (8-4), the No. 2 tandem of Delgado and Figueroa (8-0), and the No. 3 team of Meinecke and Daniel (8-0).

For the Lions, singles victories were collected by No. 1 River Prado (8-4), No. 3 Eric Waldrop (8-2), No. 4 Eric Smith (8-2), No. 5 Wesley Goodrich (8-2), and No. 6 Caleb Dietlin (8-0). No. 7 Blake Hutchins (8-0) also secured a win in a match that did not count toward the final score.

The doubles wins for the Lions were notched by the No. 1 team of Prado and Tyler Mitchell (8-2) and the No. 2 duo of Smith and Goodrich (8-2).

Picking up a mixed doubles win that did not count toward the final score were Andre Martinez and Zoe Smith (8-1).

Brownwood (2-2) will be back in action at home Saturday as the Lions and Lady Lions host Graham at 9 a.m. and Sweetwater at 1:30 p.m.
