Art Demonstrations Continue at Stars of Texas Art Exhibit

Area elementary students visited the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit and demonstrations on Tuesday, learning about art and how different types of art are created.

Students from Brownwood ISD’s Woodland Heights Elementary and Coggin Elementary schools enjoyed field trips to the art exhibit in the Depot Civic and Cultural Center to learn a little about art and see firsthand many different forms of art.

The students were able to see demonstrations of watercolors, stencil painting and pastels while at the exhibit Tuesday.  Classes from many area schools will visit the exhibit which runs through February 15th.  Selected artists continue demonstrating their techniques and styles throughout the exhibit each weekday, from 9 am to 3 pm.  Friday, February 14th will be the conclusion of these demonstrations.

Monday’s demonstrations included  Jana Marie Herndon of Abilene, Micro Mosaics; Sleepy Gomez of Rising Star – Procedures for Wood Sculpting; and Paul Friske Abilene – Pastels.  Tuesday featured Tommy Munster of Bangs – Stencil Art; Kathryn Jones of Brownwood – Easy Marbleizing with Watercolors; and Jacquie McMullen – Pastel Portraits.

The public is invited to attend the remainder of the demonstrations at the following dates:

Wednesday, February 5th:

Julie Mize of Brownwood – Working with Colored Pencils
Deborah Itschner of Burnet – Painting with Acrylics
Sandra McSwain of Brownwood– Pottery

Thursday, February 6th:

Candace Fulton of San Angelo – Monsters from Recyclables
Jonathan Ceniceros of Brownwood – Inktense Pencil Drawing
Ken McFarlane Breckenridge – Scratch Board

Friday, February 7th:

Molly Gore of Coleman – Acrylic Splatter Drip Paint
Bob Wade of Dublin – Oil Painting
Wanda Wade of Dublin – Lessons in Light (Mixed Media)

Monday, February 10th:

Sulema Orr of Brownwood – Photography
Donna Rambo of Brownwood – Revamp Rewind Jewelry Designs by Donna
Smokey Tormolen of Early – Paper Mache

Tuesday, February 11th:

Linda Eggleston of Brownwood – Oil Painting
Robert Stacks – Wood and Paper Art
Tammy Barr of Fort Davis – Metal Clay (Jewelry)

Wednesday, February 12th:

Tina Howard of Blanket – Letter Press Printing
Christopher Gaston – Digital Design
Valerie DeLaRosa of San Angelo – Drawing with Charcoal

Thursday, February 13th:

Donna Thompson of Early – Decoupage
Cindy McCarn of Abilene – Watercolors
Paige Shelton of Smithville – Pottery

Friday, February 14th:

Ted and Martha Shelton of Brownwood – Texas Wildflowers
Ginger Test of Novice – Watercolors
Paige Shelton of Smithville – Pottery

The exhibit itself will open to the public February 2nd through 15th at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center in Brownwood beginning with the opening reception on February 1st.  The public is invited to visit the exhibit and enjoy viewing the 144 works selected from 126 artists from across Texas along with the above demonstrations.

Monday-Friday  9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Saturday, February 8th  10:00 AM – 4:00 PM; Saturday, February 15th, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.
Sunday   1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
