A memorial service with military honors for Rod Springfield, age 80, of May, will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 1, 2023, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Rod went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Rodrick Lloyd “Rod” Springfield was born on October 23, 1942, to Bessie (Peeler) and Burl Springfield in Lubbock.

Rod joined the U.S. Army on October 30, 1959, and worked in the Signal Corps as a lineman and attained the rank of PFC (E-3).  Rod married Jan Springfield on March 30, 1973.  After the Army, Rod worked odd jobs leading him to Muleshoe, where he went to work for Wilson Appliance for approximately 10 years and then worked for Five Area Telephone Cooperative for 32 years.   Rod also opened Rod’s Lock Shop and served the Muleshoe area for 10 years before moving to Lake Brownwood in 2004.  He continued to operate his lock shop until he retired in 2022.

Rod is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jan Springfield, daughter Crystal, (Robert) England, daughter Shannon (Richard) Stewart, son, Stacy (Kim) Springfield and son, Scott (Sabrina) Springfield, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters Donna (Mike) Thomlison and Darlene (Fred) Hamrick and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bessie and O.T. Reeder, Burl Springfield; twin sister, Robbie Miller, sisters Ginny Springfield and Linda Cummings; brothers Jerry Springfield and Wayne Reeder.

Over the 50 years of marriage his extended family of in-laws will remember him with great love and affection.  Rod will be remembered for his hard work ethic, which he instilled in his children, and his loyalty to friends and family.

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be offered to the Springfield family at heartlandfuneralhome.com
