comptrollerlogo2Texas State Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax allocation numbers for January this week showing some positive numbers to start the New Year for all Brown County municipalities.

Brownwood was up 2.66% over January of last year, and this marks the fourth month in a row with positive numbers for Brownwood.  The City of Early was up 7.44% compared to the same month last year while Bangs was up 4.33% and Blanket increased by 16.99%.

Combs will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts their January local sales tax allocations totaling $573.5 million, up 8.1 percent compared to January 2013.

“Consumer spending in retail trade contributed to the latest gain in state sales tax collections,” Combs said. “Other sectors such as telecommunications also contributed to the monthly growth, and state sales tax revenue has now increased for 45 consecutive months.”

The sales tax figures represent November sales reported by monthly tax filers.
