Clothing entries began arriving for the Home Economics Division of the Brown County Youth Fair on Monday morning.

Entries from casual wear to evening gowns were brought in by exhibitors to be judged on appearance and construction from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.   Participants also participated in a run-through practice for the fashion show which will be held on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m.  During the fashion show, all exhibitors are required to model their clothing projects.

Home Economics Superintendent Beverly Sullivan stated that she is always impressed with the items these exhibitors bring each year.

“I like to see the kids’ entries, they have such enthusiasm, and such originality,” said Sullivan.  “It’s amazing what they can do and accomplish.”

Sullivan was employed at the Brown County Extension Office for 23 years and has been a part of the Brown County Youth Fair for years.  In fact, this will be her 26th year helping with Brown County Youth Fair.  She served as the home economics superintendent after retiring from the extension office in 2010.  Sandy Banks took over as superintendent from 2011-2013, until Sullivan’s return this year.

Many volunteers along with Sullivan, who range from family members of exhibitors to local home economic teachers, are helping to make this year’s home economics division of the BCYF a success.  Sullivan stated that many of these volunteers are amazing seamstresses and that she has known most of them personally for many years.

“I’ve known all these ladies for years,” said Sullivan.  “Some I knew as 4-Hers.”

This year’s clothing division is being judged a little different, according to Sullivan.  Rather than being placed on scoring system by a panel of judges, items are being placed by one judge in each division this year.

Results of Monday’s judging will be announced after the fashion show Tuesday evening.  Awards will be given in three divisions:  junior, intermediate and senior.  A top model award will also be presented.
