Jack Nelson Smith

Jack Nelson Smith, age 87 of Brownwood went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 3, 2014, at the Texas Veteran’s Hospital in Temple. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 4, 2014, at Cox Cemetery in Brooksmith with Pastor Ricky Cavett officiating.

Jack was born on December 21, 1926, in Brownwood to Edmund and Lucille Smith and lived in Brown County for many years. After graduating from Richland Springs High School, Jack entered the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during WWII. He married Juanita Murray on December 23, 1948, in Three Rivers, Texas and together they raised 3 children. Jack and Juanita moved back to Brownwood 14 years ago and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Jack was a godly man who was devoted to his family and his Lord. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Jack was a Deacon and member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Juanita Smith of Brownwood; children, Grathan Walls of Spring, Texas, Jerome Smith and his wife Jan of Katy, Texas and Debbie Font and her husband Kevin of Dripping Springs, Texas; sister, Shirley McCoy of Weatherford, Texas; grandchildren, Wes Walls of Arlington, Texas, Chris Smith of Katy, Texas, Aaron Font of Dripping Springs, Texas, Ashley Mahnken of Katy, Texas, Leah Fredrick of Dripping Springs, Texas and 7 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. Condolences for the family may be left at www.davismorrisfuneralhome.com. Services under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
