VFW to Observe Signing of Paris Peace Accords, End of U.S. Involvement in Vietnam

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3278 and the Ladies & Men’s Auxiliary will observe the signing of the Paris Peace Accords which occurred on January 27, 1973, and ended America’s involvement in Vietnam.  The observance will be held at 6:00 p.m. on January 8 at the VFW Post at 2300 Stephen F. Austin.

More than 58,000 services members were killed and over 153,000 were wounded with 1,643 still listed as Missing in Action. The first American causality was OSS LTC Peter Dewey killed on September 26, 1945 well before the major involvement of American forces.

In the last engagement of the war May 12-15, 1975 there were fifteen servicemen who lost their lives though direct enemy contact and 3 others that were listed as MIA were executed by the Khmer Rouge during the Mayaguez incidence.

The public is invited to attend.
