Lady Dragons cruise to bi-district championship with a 21-2 win over Wink

SAN ANGELO – The District 6-2A champion Bangs Lady Dragons secured a bi-district championship with a 21-2, five-inning victory over District 5-2A fourth seed Wink Wednesday in a one-game playoff at San Angelo Central High School.

The Lady Dragons (24-4), who will face District 7-2A runner-up Hamlin (21-6) in area round action next week, scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, 10 in the second, three in the third and one run in the fourth inning.

Wink took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and also scored the last run of the game in the top of the fifth.

Bangs’ onslaught featured 16 hits and two walk, while Wink committed five errors.

Leading the charge offensively for the Lady Dragons were Abby Wolf with three hits – including two home runs and a triple – and six RBIs; Cheyenne Rush with three hits – including a double – and an RBI; Jordyn Miller with two hits – including a double – and a pair of RBIs; Neeley Bradley with two hits; Jordan Valdez with a two-run home run; and Julianna Ethridge, Sierra Lorah, Emily Baker, Bailey Mendieta and Mattisyn Taylor with one hit and one RBI apiece.

In the circle, Wolf pitched all five innings and gave up two runs – one earned – on three hits with four strikeouts to collect the victory.
