Cason hurls no-hitter as HPU softball splits two at Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas – Howard Payne University’s Bree Cason threw a no hitting in an 8-0 game one victory for the Lady Jackets at the University of the Ozarks Friday afternoon.

Game One
HPU’s Bree Cason kept the Eagles hitless and walked just one batter in the Lady Jackets’ 8-0 victory in game one of the series at the University of the Ozarks.

As a team, the Lady Jackets recorded 12 hits sparked by a six-run top of the seventh. HPU got single runs in the first and fourth innings to carry a 2-0 lead going into the final frame.

McKeanne Saenz was 3-for-4 at the plate which included a double. Madison Forrester and Zoie Garcia each had two hits and Makayla Wesley added a double.

Game Two
Howard Payne carried a 3-2 advantage after five innings, but a four-run sixth by the Eagles put the Lady Jackets trailing 6-3 on the way to the Ozarks final.

Outhitting the Eagles 10-8 in the game, the Lady Jackets stranded seven runners in the game.

HPU was led by Madison Forrester going 3-for-4 at the plate with two stolen bases. Simonne Sanders had the only extra-base hit for HPU, a double.

Howard Payne is now 8-20 overall and 2-16 in American Southwest Conference play. Ozarks stands at 5-24 on the year and 2-15 in league play. The two teams will finish out their conference series on Saturday with a single game starting at 12:00 noon.
