An upper level disturbance will move in from the southwest Wednesday as moisture is lifted over cold air at the surface. A wintry mix of rain, snow, and sleet is possible beginning as early as Wednesday afternoon. While little or no accumulation is expected into Wednesday night, a second stronger system will move across west central Texas Thursday. This system has a greater potential for snow accumulation especially Thursday afternoon and night. Areas of the Big Country, Concho Valley and Northern Heartland are the most favored areas of snow accumulation. While snowfall accumulations up to 2 inches are possible, there remains significant uncertainty on how much and even the type of precipitation.

Temperatures will be critical for this event. Readings of only a few degrees colder would allow the wintry mix to change over to accumulating snowfall for much of the area. Slightly warmer temperatures would allow for just a cold rain.

Residents of West Central Texas are encouraged to monitor the latest forecast and weather conditions. Be prepared for a prolonged period of cold temperatures and the potential for wintry weather across west central Texas.
