taylorFuneral services for Mary Imogene “Jean” Thompson Taylor, age 92, of Brownwood, will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 11, 2010 in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Ted Kell officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00.

Jean peacefully went to be with our Lord and Savior on February 8, 2010 in Brownwood.

She was born on September 2, 1917 in Hamilton, TX to John and Nanny (Tippie) Thompson.

She married Sandy C. Taylor on November 29, 1936 in Hamilton. He died September 20, 1982.

Known as “Mema” to those around her she was always a tremendous example of a true Christian woman. She was always serving others even to the very end at Songbird Lodge, and will be known for her spunkiness. She faithfully worshiped at Austin Avenue Church of Christ and found happiness for years in preparing meals and taking care of others. During her working years she was a well-known figure at Gibson’s Discount Store. She never met a stranger and always made everyone who walked through her door feel right at home. She was a beautiful wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and true friend. She will live in our hearts forever.

Jean is survived a son, Joe Don Taylor and a daughter, Sandra Pennington and husband Jerry Pennington all from Brownwood. She was blessed with four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Todd Pennington and wife Erin of Brownwood, Karen Spruill and husband Cliff of Lake Brownwood, Torri Choate and husband Abram of Brownwood, and Aaron Taylor and Leticia Mares of Brownwood. Her “Greats” include, Jessica and Maegan Pennington of Waco, Cole and Ben Pennington of Brownwood, Whitney and Lauren Patterson of Bangs, Daniel Spruill of  Carbon, TX, and Asher and Ava Choate of Brownwood. She is also survived by one sister, Judy Overton of Brownwood and one niece Darlene Overton of St. Louis MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Harry Mack Taylor.

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be left for the family at www.davismorrisfuneralhome.com
